Now, Cricket Australia has appointed former Test opener Justin Langer as the new coach in all three forms of the game.

In less than six years as coach of Western Australia‚ where he lives by mantras like "no a**sholes" and "character over cover drives"‚ Langer has engineered five white-ball titles and trips to two Sheffield Shield finals.

"If we can keep mentoring them and helping them, and they want to keep getting better and they want to meet the standards of the Australian cricket team, then of course they'll be welcomed back".

Other names that were mentioned as a possible replacement for Lehmann, who rose to the role in 2013 when Mickey Arthur was sacked, were Langer's ex-teammate (now coach of Sussex in the United Kingdom county competition) Jason Gillespie and incumbent assistant coach David Saker.

The former opening batsman, who represented Australia in 105 Tests and eight ODIs before retiring in 2007, will be part of two Ashes series, World Cup in 2019 and World T20 in 2020.

"To illustrate this, Western Australia has more nationally-contracted male players than any other state for 2018-19". As an worldwide cricketer, Justin was a proud and courageous competitor who gave his all for his country.

But will Langer help the Australians learn the lesson that their compatriots‚ who have driven the backlash against ball-tamperers and conspirators Steve Smith‚ David Warner and Cameron Bancroft‚ will not put up with a team who won't stop at destroying their integrity by trying to cheat their way to victory?

On his new duty, Langer said, "I am very excited about the scope I now have to coach the country that supported me so much in my cricketing career".

Langer's maiden assignment as Lehmann's successor will be next month's Qantas Tour of the United Kingdom, comprising of five-match ODI series and a one-off T20I against England.

"There are some big tournaments coming up".

"But ultimately, if I fast forward it, the Indian Test tour in about three or four years' time (2021), to me that's the ultimate".

"How people view us, that's really none of our business".

"I look back on my career, the Mount Everest moment was 2004 when we finally beat India in India. They [Smith and Warner] are like the cream on the top when it comes to big tournaments", Langer said. But they are great kids ... we have all made mistakes, we can all get better at things.

His team would still play aggressive cricket and sledging will still have its place.

Justin was the clear standout, particularly based on his recent coaching and player development achievements, <
