"The investigation process is in full swing", Ime Archibong, Facebook's VP of product partnerships wrote. Archibong had also hinted that a team consisting of both internal and external auditors has been deployed in order to investigate all the apps which had a large number of user base.

The Cambridge Analytica scandal came to light in March, when it was revealed that a researcher, Dr. Aleksandr Kogan, scraped Facebook data via a personality test app and sold it to Cambridge Analytica, in violation of Facebook's terms of service.

After reviewing thousands of apps by its own estimation, Facebook has suspended 200 which might have misused the data they had access to.

Facebook has suspended, and is investigating, 200 apps that it suspects abused user's data before 2014 when the social network upped its privacy protection protocols.

The apps in question pertain to usage before 2014, when the company adjusted its platform policy to reduce the volumes of data app developers could access. If found to be the case, Facebook added it would ban the apps and notify users via its website which allows users to find out if they had installed an app that misused data before 2015. "To date thousands of apps have been investigated".

The move is part of an audit run by the company to examine how many third-party apps had extensive access to user information, and how many used that data inappropriately. Since then, Facebook set up a website that tells you whether your profile data was collected by Cambridge Analytica. We'll require developers to not only get approval but also sign a contract in order to ask anyone for access to their posts or other private data.

He pledged that every app receiving information from Facebook would be audited and that all the apps that either refused or failed the audit would be permanently banned.

Archibong does state that "there is a lot more work to be done" and that Facebook will keep you updated on any progress.

"We suspended the myPersonality app nearly a month ago because we believe that it may have violated Facebook's policies", Archibong said Monday in response to an AFP inquiry.
