WH lawyer attends DOJ briefings with lawmakers on confidential source

President Donald Trump's legal team wants a briefing on the classified information passed on to lawmakers about the origins of the FBI's Russian Federation investigation and may take it to the Justice Department as part of an effort to scuttle the probe, an attorney for the president said Friday.

Nunes and other Republicans already eager to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation used Trump's complaints to obtain the briefing from the Justice Department, whose leaders have tried for months to balance demands from congressional overseers against their stated obligation to protect Mueller's ongoing investigation into ties between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign.

President Donald Trump and his conservative allies have claimed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was using the confidential source to spy on the Trump campaign, although USA officials have told CNN that the source was not planted inside the campaign.

Confirming the existence of a "confidential human source", House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., said the intelligence gathering on individuals connected to the Trump campaign started before the official FBI investigation, which begs some questions about who directed it.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Flood and Kelly were there to "facilitate meetings" between the Justice Department officials and Congress and that both men left the meetings "after making brief comments".

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr also attended the briefing but did not comment afterward. Trump's attempt to wage war on the Justice Department, which he plainly sees as properly existing only to protect him and carry out his vendettas, is only one vivid example.

"The 13 Angry Democrats (plus people who worked 8 years for Obama) working on the rigged Russia Witch Hunt, will be MEDDLING with the mid-term elections, especially now that Republicans (stay tough!) are taking the lead in Polls". They also said it was inappropriate for White House officials to attend any part of a meeting about a criminal investigation that directly concerns the president and his campaign.

"Well, Senator Graham did not explain what exactly a "confidential informant" is if not a spy because, of course, they are one and the same", Carlson said.

Sen. Marco Rubio said Sunday on CBS that he also hasn't seen evidence that there was an embedded spy in the Trump campaign.

"That is kind of in my mind, and maybe I'm a traditionalist, violates a norm and standard of behavior that's always been abided by previous presidents and to me that's bothersome and I think another sign of some erosion of our institutions and our norms and standards", Clapper said.

The lawmakers were briefed by Rosenstein, FBI Director Chris Wray and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats.

Mr. Trump said in an early morning tweet Wednesday.

The president demanded the Justice Department investigate the accusations and turn over any relevant documents to Congress.

Suggesting that the probe was launched on the backs of inappropriately obtained information was Giuliani's latest effort to discredit the investigation by painting it as a purely political event.

Hannity said he echoed President Donald Trump's sentiment that Comey's firing was a "great service to this country".

And in the Trump State, the idea that there are rules or institutions that stand outside the president-and heaven forbid might even hold him accountable-is unconscionable. The White House says chief of staff John Kelly and lawyer Emmet Flood showed up to give remarks, but did not stay for the briefings. The Justice Department hasn't said what information will be shared with lawmakers and Kelly about the informant.
