The developer platform GitHub, which is widely used for storing, sharing, and collaborating on code, will apparently soon be a Microsoft company. Together, the two companies will empower developers to achieve more at every stage of the development lifecycle, accelerate enterprise use of GitHub, and bring Microsoft's developer tools and services to new audiences.
MicrosoftsaidGitHub will continue to operate independently and "provide an open platform for all developers in all industries".
Bloomberg said the decision to go to Microsoft was partly because of the company being impressed by Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella. GitHubcalls itself the world's largest code host with more than 28 million developers using its platform.

GitHub was last valued at $2 billion in 2015, and it had raised approximately $350 million from investors including Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive Capital, IVP, and SV Angel.
