Now, as we get closer to the launch of the production version of the electric sports vehicle next year, Porsche is ready to let us get used to the car's actual name.
Porsche has also shown a Mission E Cross Turismo concept, a wagon version of the electric vehicle. Read on for six things we found out about the 2020 Taycan today. The name Taycan means "lively young horse", according to Porsche. So now you know.
The vehicle was known as the Mission E since the unveiling of the concept in 2015, but it was always known that the production version will most likely feature a name that works with Porsche's current naming scheme. It'll go to 60 miles per hour in under 3.5 seconds and to a top speed of 124 mph in less than twelve seconds.
With new so-called J1 architecture that will enable fast-charging to 80% in just 15 minutes, the Taycan will reach the market with one of the most high-tech powertrains used on an electric auto yet.
In terms of range, the target is for the Porsche Taycan cover upwards of 300 miles on a single charge and Porsche says the 800-volt system can take on 62 miles of charge in just 4 minutes - assuming you have access to the necessary high powered charging facilities.
Zellmer adds that "over the next 10 years our strategy will reflect a mixture of models using internal combustion, plug-in and fully electric powertrains".
Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG.
The serial version of the concept of Mission E will be called Taycan.
Interest in the Taycan has already been huge, Porsche says, though sales aren't expected to kick off in the U.S. for some time yet. It will have two highly capable electric motors, one powering the rear axle and the other the front axle.
Porsche both needs electrification to comply with tougher emissions rules and is embracing the technology because it allows for sporty driving that dovetails with the brand, he said. Two hundred kilometres per hour such vehicle will reach in 12 seconds.
