GOP suggests holding kids longer at border -- with parents

America Better Than This: Texas Doctor On Shelter For Migrant Children Melania Trump ‘hates’ separating migrant kids from parents

First Lady Melania Trump set off mild tremors in the political circuit by implicitly criticizing her husband for an overzealous and politically motivated enforcement of a law that he blames on Democrats.

He said he wants Congress to provide him with a third option: to deport families as a unit.

He berated Democrats, calling them "the problem".

Republicans on Capitol Hill frantically searched on Tuesday for ways to end the Trump administration's policy of separating families after illegal border crossings, with the focus shifting on a new plan to keep children in detention longer than now permitted - but with their parents. Of the 12,000 children, 10,000 are being sent by their parents on a very unsafe trip, and only 2000 are with their parents, many of whom have tried to enter our Country illegally on numerous occasions.

The President's administration announced the family separation policy in May as a part of a "zero tolerance" crackdown on illegal immigration to the United States. Crime in Germany is way up.

"It's absolutely reprehensible. The last time I know of that the United States of America was ripping kids away from families was when we had slavery", said U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton.

"If you don't have Borders, you don't have a Country!" he added in another tweet. "Don't wait until after the election because you are going to lose!"

"No one in Congress, Republican or Democrat, wants children separated from their parents", he said in a statement.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen says she hasn't heard newly released audio of crying children who have been separated from their families at the U.S. -Mexico border.

On Monday, the United Methodist church said it was bringing church law charges against Sessions, one of its members, of child abuse, immorality and racial discrimination.

Under the administration's current policy, all unlawful crossings are referred for prosecution - a process that moves adults to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and sends many children to facilities run by the Department of Health and Human Services. "I say it's very strongly the Democrats' fault", he said Monday.

Almost 2,000 minors have been separated from their families since Sessions announced the policy where everyone caught crossing the border illegally will be prosecuted. She compared it to the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II, which she called "one of the most shameful episodes in US history".

By law, when adults are detained and criminally prosecuted, their children can not be kept with them in jail, and a 2016 court ruling shut down federally run family detention centers.

The entire House Republican Conference will meet Tuesday evening before their first vote series of the week, with President Donald Trump in attendance.

In the Senate, Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who ran unsuccessfully against Trump in 2016 for their party's presidential nomination, said he would introduce legislation this week to halt family separations. We need borders, we need security.

"These are crippling loopholes that cause family separation, which we don't want", Trump said.

ProPublica reported that the girl and the rest of the wailing children heard on the audio hadn't been at the facility a full 24 hours "so their distress at having been separated from their parents was still raw".
