Apple rumoured to be updating at last

Apple rumoured to be releasing a linewide hardware refresh this year Apple Upgrades MacBook Pro With Improved Keyboard, True Tone Display, More

This may be your last chance to snag a brand new one, so get them while they last! Both the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar get the Apple T2 chip, first introduced in the iMac Pro. And that's only if you elect one of Intel's eight-generation i5 or i7 processors.

The updated Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro features a 6-core 8th-generation Intel core processor. Right now, users are offered a 1.32-inch and a 1.5-inch display, depending on the model size they pick up, meaning that the new, smaller variation would have a face akin to the current 42mm model. Instantly, Apple has checked off two of the biggest requests from would-be MacBook Pro buyers. With its recommitment to pro users at a special media event in the spring of 2017, it seemed like Apple had gotten the message, but it would need to walk the walk. Mostly because it's thinner, helping MacBook Pro models be more slender. Finally, the batteries have got a little bigger - 58 watt-hours in the 13-inch and 83.6 watt-hours in the 15-inch - though Apple is quoting the same runtime estimates of about 10 hours wireless internet use.

Apple's priciest laptops have been given a major upgrade.

Apple has had a quiet 2018 so far in terms of new product launches, but if a new research note from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is correct, the iPhone company has a lot of new products planned for this fall. The 15-inch receives a six-core i9 capable of 4.8Ghz Turbo Boost mode, and up to 32GB of DDR4 memory. The more interesting accessory, if you can call it that way, is the eGPU (external GPU) for the MacBook Pros. The company said in a press release that the 15-inch model is up to 70 percent faster, while the 13-inch model is twice as fast.

Apple says the new MacBook Pro models are part of the company's Back to School promotion starting in the USA from Tuesday, available to college students, their parents, faculty and staff through the Apple Education Store.

Besides that, the two models also come Retina displays that feature 500 nits of brightness and support for the P3 wide color gamut. Or, for the digital hoarders among us, a nice storage bump with capacity of both the 13- and 15-inch offerings doubling to 2TB or 4TB, respectively. Apple's Macbook Pro keyboard design has been under fire recently for its rate of failure and high cost to replace.
