Donald Trump told Theresa May to "sue" the European Union during his visit to the United Kingdom, the British Prime Minister has astonishingly revealed.

Trump, who is spending the last day of a four-day visit to Britain at his luxury Turnberry golf resort in southwest Scotland ahead of a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Sunday, also revealed details of his meeting with Queen Elizabeth II, saying she thought Brexit was a "very complex problem".

Asked by the BBC's Andrew Marr what it was he had said, she replied: "He told me I should sue the European Union - not go into negotiations".

The Guardian reports Mr Trump's press conference in which he disavowed comments he made to The Sun about Theresa May's Brexit plans and the impact on a trade deal.

'Actually no, we're going into negotiations with them.

Davis, who quit as Brexit Secretary, used a Sunday Times article to accuse May of making an "astonishingly dishonest claim" that Brexiteers had not come up with an alternative to her plan. On the one hand it what would have been for us a very poor trade deal and would have kept Northern Ireland in the customs union, effectively carving Northern Ireland out in these terms of the UK.

She defended her blueprint for Brexit and urged her critics to back it.

That illusion, and the calm of a attractive summer evening at Blenheim Palace, was shattered by the appearance on dinner guests' smartphones of the first extracts of the President's explosive interview in the next day's Sun newspaper.

Trump sees Putin meeting as easiest of tour
The alliance says that 15 members, or just over half, will meet the benchmark by that year, based on current trends. Trump said Tuesday he "can't say right now" if Putin is a friend or foe, but called him a "competitor".

UK's Brexit Secretary David Davis has resigned
The resignation comes two days after the whole of the cabinet met at Chequers to agree Britain's negotiating position. Ian Lavery, chair of the Labour Party, said: "This is absolute chaos and Theresa May has no authority left".

"What the president also said at that press conference was don't walk away".

Trump met with Prime Minister Theresa May earlier during his trip for talks on trade, Brexit and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, according to local news reports.

May today tried to sell the white paper to MPs, saying to the BBC that "the common rulebook enables us to strike trade deals around the world".

Hours after he told The Sun May's Brexit plan could kill an agreement, Trump said the relationship between the two allies is at "the highest level of special" after talks at Chequers, and a post-Brexit trade deal between the two countries "will absolutely be possible", which is in sharp contrast to the headlines.

She said that there can be carve outs if the other party doesn't agree with part of the deal.

"There's no way I'm going back", the 61-year-old said. "We have been discussing this option". While there was a small pro-Trump rally that took place in London on Saturday, that was after his interview with the Daily Mail.

She added: "David Davis was discussing with Michel Barnier".

"I think she found it maybe too brutal", said the president.
