Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) said online shoppers purchased more than 100 million products worldwide during its Prime Day sale, despite glitches on its mobile app and websites that prevented customers from placing orders. Many other Amazon devices followed suit with $40 off the Amazon Echo (2nd Generation), $40 off the Echo Spot and significant discounts to Fire tablets and Kindle Paperwhite, too.

Jason Goldberg, senior vice president of commerce at Publicis.Sapient, noted that it's easy for Amazon to extend deals on its own devices and brands, but trickier for it to extend deals for its third-party sellers because they signed up for different promotional slots.

Amazon Prime Day, which lasts for 36 hours, is occurring in the U.S. and several European countries including Spain, Germany, France, and the UK.

"Members across the country have snapped up the thousands of deals during the shopping event reserved exclusively for Prime members - and it's not over".

The tech giant said shoppers bought over 100 million items during Prime Day.

Amazon typically schedules Prime Day for mid July and this year the deals begin at midday PST (3pm EST) on Monday, July 16.

Amazon's site crashed on Wednesday across the United States and some parts of the UK, leaving shoppers unable to make their purchases. Whether it's a paper shredder, a dog crate, or a medicine ball, Amazon Prime members get 20 percent off the items in the basics section. Some of these aren't specific to Prime Day and thus don't require a membership, but the price cuts are also fairly modest in some cases-you can get $5 off MSRP on some of Nintendo's best games, like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. Sales, even when adjusted for the 36-hour period, surpassed Cyber Monday, Black Friday and 2017's Prime Day (which, itself, improved upon the 2016 event by 60%).

Instead of focusing exclusively on Prime members, who pay Amazon's $119 annual subscription, this year Soapboax opted to leverage the flood of onlookers shopping for bargains and expanded its pool of potential customers.

Workers in Amazon's Germany, Poland, and Spain-based warehouses have gone on strike during Prime Day, and the timing is far from coincidental. As the number of Prime subscribers continues to grow, so to does that size and scale of Amazon's Prime Day sale.

When do the Prime Day 2018 sales start?

If you use Alexa regularly, the Echo Show ranks as your top Amazon Prime Day deal.
