
The director of the Springfield Symphony found himself in the middle of an evacuation from a deadly wildfire in northern California.
Cal Fire confirmed one fatality Thursday evening.
Firefighters discuss plans while battling the Carr Fire in Shasta, Calif., on Thursday. Firefighters face a hard task in the days ahead, with dry conditions and temperatures expected to reach 110 F on Friday.
The blaze, which is raging west of the park, has burned 44,223 acres and is 27% contained, the US Forest Service said.
Authorities say it is now almost 72 square miles (186 square kilometers), but containment has increased to 29 percent.
Roads out of the city, which is home to 90,000 people, have been left jammed with motorists trying to escape the flames.
