"She just called me over and said there was a baby in the water".

Cops are investigating the 911 callers' claims, sources said. Investigators also pulled a backpack found floating nearby from the river.

Police say the body of a baby boy was found in the water near the Brooklyn Bridge in Manhattan Sunday afternoon.

Diana Campbell posted a news story about the incident on her Facebook, adding, "Asking for prayers for this handsome baby boy. someone out there knows what might have happen to him".

Police said the baby's body showed no signs of trauma.

Austin's mom, Diane, was the first to spot the baby in the water shortly after 4 p.m. She said the baby was floating about 30 feet offshore.

The medical examiner will work to determine the boy's exact cause of death.
