Korea slams United States officials for sanctions

John Bolton Says North Korea Hasn't Done Much To Rid Itself Of Nuclear Weapons White House adviser Bolton urges North Korea to act on denuclearization

He continued to note that the US has no current plans to relax sanctions on North Korea until there is evidence the country is taking steps to denuclearize, saying the Trump administration would continue its campaign of "maximum pressure".

North Korea's foreign ministry said on Thursday it had stopped missile and nuclear tests and dismantled "the nuclear test ground", yet the United States still insisted on "denuclearisation first". "What we need is performance from North Korea on denuclearization".

Waving mini white and blue "unification" flags - a pale blue silhouette of the Korean peninsula - the head of the North Korean group, Ju Yong-gil, said the football game will "create momentum for reunification throughout all classes".

The two sides vowed at that time to work towards North Korea's denuclearisation but have struggled to reach a deal to meet that goal, with the United States insisting that sanctions pressure must be maintained during negotiations.

"However, the US responded to our expectation by inciting worldwide sanctions and pressure against the DPRK".

"As long as the U.S. denies even the basic decorum for its dialogue partner and clings to the outdated acting script which the previous administrations have all tried and failed, one can not expect any progress in the implementation of the DPRK-U.S. joint statement including the denuclearization", it said.

USA officials, according to North Korea, "are making baseless allegations against us and making desperate attempts at intensifying the worldwide sanctions", against what they believe to be Trump's intentions to better relations between the two countries.

USA officials familiar with the talks, however, told Reuters that North Korea had yet to agree to a timeline for eliminating its nuclear arsenal or to disclose its size, which US estimates have put at between 30 and 60 warheads.

The United States was "attempting to invent a pretext for increased sanctions against the DPRK".

It will mark the fourth such football match between North and South Korean workers, with the last game taking place in Pyongyang in 2015.

Mr Bolton said Mr Pompeo would be prepared to return to North Korea for talks, but not for more rhetoric.

Officials said they were also looking into whether any of the 14 vessels that transported North Korean coal violated sanctions banning such shipments.
