Tottenham told Aston Villa's Jack Grealish not for sale at any price

Mauricio Pochettino not expecting Tottenham signings before 5pm but insists he is happy with players he has Pochettino unfazed by Spurs’ quiet transfer window

"I think I want to make clear that all are fit, but maybe we need to care for some players and not push them to compete, not take some rash decisions with some players due to their background or for different reasons that we are assessing now after Monday".

Their failure to bring anyone in is the first time a Premier League club has not made a signing in the 15 years of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur failed to lure Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish to north London on deadline day and now the Championship side are reportedly preparing a new contract - and some Spurs fans have criticised chairman Daniel Levy.

Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele were all expected to leave this summer, and they still could if they are willing to move overseas.

"We have a very good squad, we have very good players and it is not easy to add players that improve that", Pochettino said. "We saw with Arsenal they had to sell a player every summer - if Spurs can get away with that then fair play".

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says the club did not receive any offers from Manchester United for defender Toby Alderweireld.

European companies 'protected' from USA sanctions following Iran nuclear row
The European Union has sought to salvage the nuclear deal and provide legal cover for its companies to continue operating in Iran. In a statement on Monday just hours before the sanctions went back into force, Trump said: "The Iranian regime faces a choice".

'I am happy to keep all the squad together, there were many rumours during the summer about players out, ' he said.

They need to try to be focused and ready to compete and give their best when I decide to put them on the pitch, and then be professional on the training ground.

"And I think that was a great job from the club to keep the best player and keep the manager".

The 46-year-old is refusing to panic about the lack of arrivals and insists he is happy with the direction the club is heading in.

"There's no reason to not trust in our squad and no reason not to believe in our club or believe in what we can do".

"Of course it's hard to understand for people that Tottenham didn't sign or sell players, but sometimes in football you need to behave differently". When we were looking for options up front, we knew how important experience would be. "We are going to be better - no doubt about that".
