Congressmen from across the aisle spent yesterday behind closed doors reviewing the Federal Bureau of Investigation report into claims of sexual misconduct against Mr Kavanaugh, as the fate of Donald Trump's choice for America's top court hung in the balance.

Trump nominated Kavanaugh on July 10 but decades-old accusations of sexual assault created drama and logistical hurdles late in the confirmation process.

Thousands of protesters - many of them survivors of sexual assault - marched on the US Supreme Court Thursday urging lawmakers not to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, the judge at the center of one of the most polarizing debates of Donald Trump's presidency.

They're demonstrating against the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.

Another undecided Democrat, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, remained undecided on Thursday afternoon.

Democrats assailed the probe as an incomplete vetting constrained by a White House determined to push through the lifetime appointment of Trump's man.

HIRONO deflects when asked point-blank about whether FBI report contains any corroborating evidence against Kavanaugh: "This is not a comprehensive FBI investigation on which we can draw conclusions".

White House spokesman Raj Shah defended the investigation to reporters Thursday morning, saying "of course we were and of course we have been" seeking the truth in the matter.

"There's nothing in it that we didn't already know", Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa said Thursday as senators are viewing the report in private.

"I think it's normal to have the White House set the parameters of a follow-up based on the allegations that have been made and to tell them stick to these allegations, don't go far afield about drinking in college", Swecker said.

"I want to make it clear to these people who are chasing my members around the hall here or harassing them at the airports or going to their homes".

Cozzolino said he then got hit on the ear with a glass. "The trauma for a man who has never had any accusations", Trump said. Kavanaugh has denied claims of sexual misconduct by three different women - Ford , Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick .

The U.S. public is sharply split over Kavanaugh's confirmation.

Republicans hold 51 seats in the Senate and changed Senate rules a year ago to end filibusters for Supreme Court nominees. A final vote is expected Saturday.

Kavanaugh's op-ed in The Wall Street Journal was published on the eve of a key procedural vote in the Senate on his nomination.

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her in the 1980's during a high school house gathering.

"A vote against Judge Kavanaugh tomorrow will be a vote for abusing the confirmation process and a good person, and it will be a vote for the shameful intimidation tactics that have been employed as part of an orchestrated smear campaign", he stated.

In an October 3 piece for Politico, journalist Matthew Miller stressed that Democrats needed to be aggressive and proactive in demanding a more comprehensive investigation of Kavanaugh.

"I don't remember", he said repeatedly, mocking Dr Ford's testimony. Dick Durbin noted that, because the background checks are confidential, the Democrats are limited in what they can say publicly about them.

Hyde-Smith didn't answer. The Mississippi Republican, sworn in last April for a seat the GOP needs to keep, hopped on a Senate subway that sped her toward the Capitol.

Ford, now a California psychology professor, has testified that when the drunken Kavanaugh attacked her, she believed he was trying to rape her.

Almost 8 in 10 Republicans said they approve of how Trump has handled the allegations in the new poll, which was conducted before Trump mocked Ford at Tuesday night's rally.
