The Butte County Sheriff's Office said the victims were located in the town of Paradise, whose 26,000 residents were told to flee the fire's path on Thursday.

Sheriff Korey Honea said reports of more deaths are being investigated.

Lynsey Paulo, PG&E spokeswoman, said Friday that the information about the power line was preliminary and stressed that the cause of the fire remained under investigation.

"It is critical that residents pay close attention to evacuation orders", the Los Angeles County Fire Department tweeted.

Fire officials say the Woolsey and Hill fires could force the evacuations of about 148,000 and structural losses are expected to be significant.

City Hall survived. But the Moose Lodge and Chamber of Commerce buildings didn't.

The out-of-control wildfire that erupted Thursday morning has destroyed at least 1,000 structures and continues to threaten at least 15,000 more, having spread to at least 20,000 acres as of Cal Fire's last incident report Thursday night.

"They were abandoned because traffic was so bad, backed up for hours", Bass said.

No fatalities have been reported in two southern California wildfires. He characterized the act as "despicable" and threatened to prosecute anyone caught looting to the full extent of the law.

Just 100 miles north of Paradise, the sixth most destructive wildfire in California history hit in July and August and was also one of the earliest.

Blome drove through the town with a man named Fred, crying, pointing out Sam's Liquor, Safeway, McDonald's, the church, the tire shop, the vehicle wash, apartments, her doctor's office, the bowling alley, a hotel, the veterinarian - all of which had gone up in flames.

Butte County CalFire Chief Darren Read said at a news conference that two firefighters and multiple residents were injured. "It was the event we have feared for a long time".

During all of this, VandenBerg had to take care of her baby alone. "That's that's what we do". Acting California Governor Gavin Newsom has requested an emergency presidential disaster declaration from Trump to speed the flow of federal aid to victims. A temporary refuge has been created in a Walgreens to house people until they can leave for a safer area.

The Woolsey Fire has already scorched 8,000 acres and is at zero percent containment as of Friday, fire officials told Accuweather.

Among those forced to flee were celebrities including Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian, who said on Twitter that flames had damaged the home she shares in nearby Calabasas with Kanye West.

Climate scientist Daniel Swain told USA media that the issue was not the rise in average temperature itself but the way the temperature rise was altering the landscape.

The strong winds seen in the Bay Area also pose a danger by enabling the spread of fire, according to May.
