How Winter Storm Eboni Could Make Return Holiday Travel Messy for Millions of Americans Winter storm creates difficult travel conditions

A winter storm has dumped almost a foot of snow in western Minnesota as it sweeps across the Upper Midwest.

Several inches of snow fell on Crookston and the surrounding region Thursday and overnight into Friday, and forecasters say up to four additional inches could fall before the snow tapers off later on Thursday.

The weather service forecast 8 to 13 inches of snow across northern, central and western Minnesota by the end of the work week. But the storm system is not over and done with as it predicts to bring heavy rain further East on Friday.

According to CNN, the system dumped more than 11 in. of rain across some areas of Louisiana and MS, where flash flood emergencies were issued December 27.

That storm shut down NY and Washington, leaving 15 people dead and impacting some 85 million residents. The storm systems were invariably constituted of two ultimatums, one for blizzard scenario and another for grave weather.

- The Twin Cities and greater Minnesota are bracing for wintry weather that is expected to hit Wednesday night and last into Thursday and Friday.

Much of the Dakotas and part of Minnesota were under a blizzard warning after many areas got a foot of snow or more Thursday. The driver and three passengers in the other vehicle were not hurt.

In Kansas, blizzard conditions closed a 75-mile stretch on I-70 from Colby to WaKeeney and roads from west of Garden City to Colorado.

Officials in North Dakota issued a no-travel advisory for the eastern part of the state because of icy roads and reduced visibility.

Boston and points to the south will only see rain during the commute.

Kalin says poor travel conditions are expected.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation said advisories warning against travel remained in effect.
