President Donald Trump on Monday denied that he worked for Russian Federation, blasting the FBI officials who launched a counterintelligence investigation into whether he was working at the behest of Russian Federation "known scoundrels" and "dirty cops".

President Donald Trump on Monday denied he worked for Russian Federation, a direct response to a weekend report from The New York Times that FBI investigators had opened a probe into whether the president had acted on behalf of the country. Analysts and pundits have also spent the past two years analyzing evidence to determine whether Putin may have compromising material on Trump, as some experts allege.

Trump also responded to a new report from the Washington Post claiming that he confiscated his translator's notes about at least one of his meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and ordered the linguist not to discuss the conversations with other top US officials.

Robert Mueller took over the investigation when he was appointed special counsel soon after Comey's firing. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Capitol Hill in Washington, Jan. 9, 2019. He later added: "I believe it is in the best interest of everyone - the president, Congress, and, most importantly, the American people - that this matter be resolved by allowing the special counsel to complete his work". Barr is expected to appear in confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. "I don't know, maybe they're celebrating the shutdown", Trump said. "I certainly don't know what happened there, what they discussed", he said. Trump went on a tweetstorm in response to the report, blasting "Lyin' James Comey" again.

In a joint statement, congressmen Elijah Cummings, Adam Schiff and Jerrold Nadler said Mr Trump must not try to "discourage, intimidate or otherwise pressure" his former personal fixer.

"Like I said: a puppet", tweeted Hillary Clinton, the Democratic heavyweight beaten by Trump's insurgent campaign in 2016.

Trump did so after a meeting with Putin in 2017 in Hamburg that was also attended by then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

He said that Strzok and Page were "known scoundrels". "They really are a disaster of a newspaper". The overall investigation is looking into Russian election interference and whether Mr Trump's campaign co-ordinated with the Russians, as well as possible obstruction of justice by Mr Trump.

The Times report published late Friday said in the wake of Comey's firing, "law enforcement officials became so concerned by the president's behavior that they began investigating whether he had been working on behalf of Russian Federation against American interests, according to former law enforcement officials and others familiar with the investigation".

"So the questions I get are not about the latest obsession and allegations about Russia, Russia, Russia".

Coons said, "That was a concerning, even alarming report". There were also reports of his excessive secrecy over talks with the Russian president in five separate encounters.

Trump has gone out of his way to hide the content of his conversations with the Russian leader, including his talk in Helsinki a year ago translated by Gross. His actions have kept even senior government officials in his administration in the dark about what he's discussed during his sit-downs with Putin.

"We had a great conversation", he said.
