'Prepare to die': Trump's longtime ally Roger Stone arrested in Russian Federation probe

Roger Stone Ex-Trump adviser Roger Stone arrested on Mueller indictment
Leonard Rios | 29 January, 2019, 00:54

Stone was taken into custody early in the morning on January 25, 2019, from his home in Fort Lauderdale.

According to NBC News, the indictment accused Stone of making false statements about his interactions with Wikileaks, thereby obstruction Congress's investigation into the issue.

When he emerged from the courthouse, Stone, wearing jeans and a blue polo shirt, was met with a mixture of boos and cheers from the large crowd waiting for him outside.

In Sunday's interview, Stone echoed Trump in his attacks on the special counsel investigation and denied any "conspiracy with Russian Federation".

CNN grabbed some video footage of the Federal Bureau of Investigation arresting Stone, showing a group of agents approaching his home, and, after knocking, one agent says, "FBI".

"The Special Counsel has everything and they are extremely thorough", said Corsi, who has filed a lawsuit against Mueller, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other agencies, claiming the government violated his Fourth Amendment due process rights.

Mr Stone continued occasionally communicating with Mr Trump and stayed plugged into his circle of advisers, both formal and informal.

Not everyone believes Roger Stone's stories. While the arrest came as a part of US Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into alleged collusion between Donald Trump and Russia, Stone stands accused of a bunch of process crimes.

"The indictment was not unexpected, but it is still significant because it alleges coordination between the Trump Campaign and WikiLeaks", said Barbara McQuade, a former US Attorney for the Eastern District of MI.

In the 1980s, Trump hired Stone, then a Washington lobbyist, to represent him in the nation's capital to deal with "a number of small but important issues" involving the businessman's Atlantic City casinos and other properties.

Stone has a knack for commanding attention: He sports impeccably tailored suits and close-cropped bleach blond hair and is willing to say just about anything. Hence the witness tampering charge.

On Twitter, Mr. Trump repeated his claim that the investigation is a "witch hunt".

Despite this, he has always said he had no inside information about the contents of the emails in WikiLeaks' possession, or the timing of when they would be released.

Mr Perez added that "there are more conspirators yet to be held accountable - and at least one of them is named Donald Trump". No operative in recent memory has earned and encouraged a greater reputation for political dark arts than Stone.

Stone described his style of doing politics in a 2018 interview with The New Yorker, both of which will be familiar to anyone with even a passing interest in United States politics since Donald Trump took office in 2016. The FBI appears never to have received Stone's letter regarding Spitzer's affairs.

To the contrary, the emails and public statements quoted in the indictment paint Stone as eager to see whatever damaging information WikiLeaks had acquired about Clinton but hazy as to what it might be. In his own telling, he was at the centre of an unruly demonstration during the 2000 presidential recount in Florida that pressured officials to halt the tally and helped give the White House to Republican George W. Bush. According to the indictment, Stone lied to lawmakers about not having any documents or communications concerning the hacked emails and WikiLeaks.

Stone has been friends with Trump for three decades and was a formal adviser to his campaign in 2015.
