The 6,000 ton Seagrand collided with the side of the Gwangan Bridge in Busan, in the southeast of the country, at around 4.20pm local time.

A KCG official said consuming alcohol aboard a vessel isn't punishable by law as long as the person doesn't steer the ship.

Prior to bridge hit, SEAGRAND reportedly, contacted berthed cruise ship. Bridge traffic is closed, status and position of the ship not known yet.

It's unclear whether the captain was at the helm of the Seagrand when it rammed into the bridge. It later detained the ship's Russian captain, whose identity is being withheld, on charges of sailing under the influence of alcohol.

The video footage has caught the moment exactly when the ship crashed into the side of the motorway bridge.

Arsenal taking it 'step by step' in race for fourth - Emery
Koscielny took a knock towards the end of the contest but Arsenal prepared for Saturday's north London derby in some style. But Arsenal were charitable enough to return the favour soon after as Leno played a short goal-kick into Matteo Guendouzi .

No injuries were caused during the freakish crash, but sections of the Gwangan Bridge in Busan were closed for precautionary purposes.

Photographs show some superficial damage to the lower level of the two-tiered structure.

South Korean authorities were also trying to determine why the ship changed course and was headed toward the bridge when its original course was in the opposite direction, to Vladivostok, Russia.

The Seagrand eventually made it to Busan where it unloaded 1,496 tons of iron pipes.
