Christchurch gun shop sold rifles online to accused shooter

Abdul Aziz: The man who saved lives by running at the Christchurch gunman Hero Mosque Worker Grabs NZ Attacker’s Gun

Fifty people were killed in the massacre, and dozens of others were inured.

Aziz, 48, is being hailed as a hero for preventing more deaths during Friday prayers at the Linwood mosque in Christchurch after leading the gunman in a cat-and-mouse chase before scaring him into speeding away in his auto.

The Australian terrorist who filmed himself slaughtering 50 worshipers at two mosques in New Zealand has asked to represent himself in court, prompting concerns the trial could become a platform to promote his far-Right ideology.

At about 1.40pm (local time) a gunman entered the Al Noor Mosque in central Christchurch and opened fire, before driving about 5 kilometres across town and attacking the Linwood mosque.

"He had army clothes on".

He says as he was running, "I was telling the guy, "come I'm here, you know, come".

Aziz ran towards to the Australian man Brenton Tarrant, picking up a credit card machine as a makeshift weapon.

Tipple said the military-style semi-automatic weapon used in the attack - a firearm Tarrant was not licensed to carry - was not bought from his store.

Abdul Aziz says he came across the gunman who dropped his gun and ran.

He later picked up a gun dropped by the shooter but found out there was no bullet in it when he pulled the trigger.

A man pays his respects at a memorial site for victims of the mosque shootings at the Botanic Gardens in Christchurch. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said she would be looking for answers from Facebook and other social media firms about how an attack that killed 50 mosque-goers was livestreamed on their platforms.

"When he saw me with the shotgun in my hands, he dropped the gun and ran away toward his vehicle".

"We are a nation who will never accept acts like this!", said a poster-sized message decorated with hearts attached to the iron fence of the botanic gardens. "I heard more gun shots and I thought that is not fire crackers or anything, so I just ran outside".

China saved Pakistan from defeat at UN

"For a long time, I didn't know if my kids were alive or dead or injured because I couldn't go inside the mosque", Aziz said.

Aziz said he ran outside screaming in a bid to cause a distraction. "He is not a man - he is a coward", Aziz said.

"When I came back in the mosque, I could see that everybody was very frightened and trying to (take) cover", Mr Aziz said. When I saw those Muslims shot dead, I told our brothers, 'Go down!

He then walked back inside and started shooting again.

The attack is the worst ever peacetime mass killing in New Zealand.

Without the courage of Abdul Aziz, the death toll from Christchurch would probably be much higher.

Footage of the killings was live-streamed by the attacker, and on Sunday police said it was now classified as an objectionable publication and therefore it was an offence to distribute or possess the material.

I provided the police with full details of the sales.

Aziz is originally from Kabul, Afghanistan, but fled the war-torn country several years ago.

More stories of heroes came to light as investigators pieced together the incident.

Hundreds of flowers were piled up amid candles and notes of grief outside the Al Noor mosque. Rashid, from Abbottabad, Pakistan, and a New Zealand resident for nine years, was in the mosque with his 21-year-old son.

Ms Ardern said: "We have made a decision as a cabinet, we are unified".

Yesterday, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that Rashid would be given a posthumous national award for bravery.
