Hydroessa : Photography of Anargyros Drolapas from Greece

Born in Athens, Greece, Anargyros Drolapas studied physics and IT. He has steadily pursued photography since 2010 with scores of images being published in online magazines. He has had two solo exhibitions and several group exhibitions so far.

Statement : As a photographer I consider myself a peripatetic viewer who perceives a chain of events and always manages to stay unnoticed. A collector of images of people and random objects that act as readymades in city’s (or not) enviroment where he gives birth to a dystopian reality which keeps piling ruin upon ruin and hurls it in front of his feet.

The permanent question if I the photographer should participate, interact or act stays unanswered. In what way could or should a photographer interact with his subject?

The effort to involve others is still valid.

Hydroessa - project statement : Hydroessa is the ancient name of Tinos, a Greek island situated in the Aegean Sea. It is famous for it’s marbles and sculptures. This project (completed in 2017) is about the atmosphere of that
island, the sea around it, the presence of rocks and specific the metamorphic rock which is called marble and the way it symbolises life and death.

Influences and favorite stuff : I am Vastly influenced by music and beloved books. I tend to create worlds that can combine various ideas and multiple interpretations.
